Plate Heat Exchanger Gaskets

Specialized gaskets designed for plate heat exchangers operate in demanding environments. They serve to separate process fluid circuits and ensure tight sealing of the entire heat exchanger. It is therefore essential to monitor the condition of the rubber gaskets and replace them timely to prevent deformation or wear.

It is recommended to carry out a technical inspection of the heat exchanger every three to five years, followed by gasket replacement. Failure to do so may lead to operational failures or system downtime.

Heat exchanger gaskets offered by “Teplo-Polis” are certified to meet all relevant quality standards. You can select the appropriate model from a wide range of manufacturers, assured that we source all items directly from OEMs — without intermediaries — which also results in cost-effective pricing.

In addition to gaskets, we supply various products essential for the reliable operation of plate heat exchangers. Delivery is available throughout Ukraine via Nova Poshta.

Types of Gaskets

Properly selected gaskets play a critical role in the durability and reliable performance of a heat exchanger. They ensure leak-tight sealing between plates, prevent medium cross-contamination, and maintain operational integrity. When selecting a gasket, consider the chemical nature of the medium, temperature range, pressure, and type of operation (continuous, cyclic, steam, etc.).

The specialists at Teplo-Polis will assist you in identifying the optimal gasket type and material composition based on your application and heat exchanger model. Our range is compatible with most global OEM brands, and we offer technical support for installation and replacement.

Main Gasket Materials

Various heat- and chemical-resistant elastomers are used in gasket production, each with specific properties and applications:

Fluoroelastomer (VITON, FPM)

  • Temperature range: –10 °C to +195 °C
  • Resistant to technical oils, mineral acids (incl. sulfuric acid), and organic solvents
  • Suitable for aggressive chemical environments and elevated temperatures

Ethylene-Propylene Rubber (EPDM, EPDM HT)

  • Temperature range: –30 °C to +150 °C
  • High resistance to alkalis, acids, hot water, and steam
  • Not suitable for oils and greases
  • Ideal for food and potable water applications

Nitrile Rubber (NBR, NBR HT)

  • Temperature range: –20 °C to +140 °C
  • Resistant to petroleum-based products, diesel fuel, technical and vegetable oils
  • Commonly used in oil, fuel, and refrigeration applications

Available Gasket Assortment

Teplo-Polis offers a wide selection of rubber gaskets compatible with heat exchangers from the following manufacturers:

AG brand gaskets are also available — a reliable and cost-effective alternative to OEM gaskets for most popular heat exchanger models. These gaskets are manufactured from certified materials (NBR, EPDM, VITON) and deliver high performance at a competitive price. AG gaskets are fully compatible with Alfa Laval, Sondex, Funke, Tranter, GEA, and other leading brands. We offer both standard and custom gasket designs.

AG Gaskets — A Reliable Alternative to OEM Seals

Teplo-Polis supplies AG gaskets as a cost-efficient substitute for OEM components. These gaskets are manufactured according to modern standards and ensure full geometric compatibility with original equipment. Materials (VITON, EPDM, NBR) provide excellent resistance to thermal, chemical, and mechanical stress.

AG gaskets are available in:

  • standard clip-on models;
  • adhesive-mounted versions;
  • steam- and acid-resistant modifications (VITON GF/STEAM);
  • FDA-compliant materials for food-grade use.

An ideal solution for urgent gasket replacement without compromising sealing integrity or requiring full plate replacement.

Function of the Gasket in Heat Exchanger Construction

A typical plate heat exchanger consists of corrugated plates compressed between steel frames. These plates are aligned using guiding bars and tightened with bolts. Thermally resistant rubber gaskets are installed between plates to ensure a sealed system.

These gaskets create separate fluid channels, ensuring that different process media flow in dedicated paths without mixing. This is critical for efficient heat transfer. The plates (0.5 to 0.9 mm thick) are made from stainless steel by cold stamping. The gaskets are made from specialized heat-resistant elastomers such as NBR, EPDM, and VITON.

Heat Exchanger Gasket Replacement

Gaskets must be replaced before reaching their full wear limit or becoming damaged. It’s best to plan replacement in advance, using the original gasket’s identification number or the model’s official marking.

Knowing the exact model of your heat exchanger is crucial — a similar-looking gasket may fail to provide a proper seal, leading to malfunction. If unsure, we recommend consulting Teplo-Polis specialists for assistance in identifying the correct type, material, size, and brand.

Gasket Replacement Steps:

  1. Drain all fluids and disconnect the unit from piping.
  2. Measure the distance between the fixed and movable frames.
  3. Mark diagonal lines on the plate stack to preserve order during reassembly.
  4. Loosen and remove the tightening bolts.
  5. Carefully remove the plates one by one, numbering them for reinstallation in the same order.
  6. Completely remove old gaskets without leaving residue. Install the new gaskets. If using adhesive, apply gentle and gradual heat.
  7. Reassemble the plates in the correct sequence.
  8. During hydrostatic testing, gradually increase pressure (no more than 10 bar/min).

After replacement, the unit should undergo a performance test. Apply pressure 30% higher than operational level. Start with cold fluid to avoid thermal stress on new gaskets. Monitor inlet/outlet pressure and temperature during the first cycle.

Successful sealing, no leaks, and stable operation will confirm that the gaskets are properly selected and installed.

How to Order Heat Exchanger Gaskets
